Thermal Concepts’ newest office is located at 444 Brickell Avenue in Downtown Miami. This is the same building where Thermal Concepts President, Larry Maurer, installed his first piece of HVAC duct 35 years ago.

In 1979, HVAC company owner David Glickman was working at 444 Brickell Avenue when he was introduced by the building’s Director of Construction, Robert Maurer, to his 18-year old son, Larry Maurer. David Glickman hired Larry on the spot, and he began learning the HVAC business as a duct apprentice. 444 brickell 400 x 250 featureWithin a year, Larry advanced to become David Glickman’s lead installer supervising his duct crews.

In 1983, Larry Maurer and his brother, Jesse Maurer, incorporated Thermal Concepts as a sheet metal contractor in Davie Florida. They were the only two employees. Shortly thereafter, the Company grew to ten employees. To support Larry and Jesse’s leadership of the field installations, their father, Robert, joined to run the office operations, and then Larry’s wife, Lauren, joined to handle the office financials. Within 20 years, Thermal Concepts’ annual revenue was among the top 25 Mechanical Contractors in the Southeastern U.S. And in 2013, Thermal Concepts’ annual revenue ranked it as the 5th largest Mechanical Contractor in the Southeastern U.S.

In addition to the sheet metal contracting business that Thermal Concepts started 31 years ago, the Company is now a full-service mechanical contractor with business units for Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Duct Work, Mechanical Insulation, Energy Management, HVAC Controls and LED Lighting. The Company’s main office is still located in Davie Florida. Their Stuart Florida office location was opened in 2006 to serve its growing number of Clients in Martin County and north Palm Beach County, and their third office location at 444 Brickell Avenue in Miami opened this week to serve their Brickell City Centre project and their growing number of Clients in Miami-Dade County.

According to David Glickman, Manager of Thermal Concepts’ HVAC Service Division, “Although Larry had zero experience when I first met him, I hired him on the spot to work for my HVAC Company, because I recognized his ‘Whatever it takes’ attitude toward learning the HVAC business. 35 years later, I’m proud to say that it’s been 13 years since Larry and Jesse hired me to help them grow their Company. I’ll never work anywhere else, because their combined ‘Whatever it takes’ attitude has created a Client-focused business with over 200 employees in 3 office locations that efficiently delivers quality results – which is why Thermal Concepts’ reputation and Client list continues to grow.”

Robert Maurer has since retired to New Mexico, but still provides his expertise in Thermal Concepts’ project cost estimating department when he returns every winter. “The circle of life not only exists with David and Larry returning to 444 Brickell now in their reversed roles,” said Robert. “When I started my construction career, I assisted with the estimating for the general contractor that built the original Miami Herald building in Miami. Last year, I assisted with the estimating for my two sons’ mechanical contracting business that built the new Miami Herald building in Doral.”
